John Sullivan's outside interests and hobbies
- I enjoy all sorts of dancing, including ballroom,
Argentine tango, swing, and contra. In the Urbana area, the best place
for ballroom dancing is the Regent.
There are two websites devoted to local tango events,
by Joe Grohens
and Ron Weigel.
The Urbana Country Dancers
are one of several local groups doing contra-style dance.
- I like to travel, and tend to take lots of photos.
I have been to all the US states, and to over 50 countries.
I've also kept track of which US counties
I've been to, and I'm not the only one to do something
so foolish.
- Since about 1988, I have sung in many choirs, starting with
the Princeton
University Glee Club. In Minneapolis, I sang with
the Univ. of Minnesota Concert Choir and with the (semi-professional)
Bach Society of Minnesota, among other groups.
In Urbana, I have sung with the
Univ. of Illinois Chamber Singers
(which used to be known as the Chorale),
and also occasionally with the Prairie Ensemble.
I have also sung in choirs at Unitarian churches in
Minneapolis
and Urbana.
In 2002, I was a pirate in the CUTC production
of "Pirates of Penzance".
